Dreams and Aspirations

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Since we were toddlers, or when we first started having thoughts, people
around us have always wondered what kind of dreams and aspirations this cute little
one have. Will he be a police? The president? A leader? A doctor? A teacher?
Will she be a model? A sales executive? Perhaps the next CEO? When we were five, we often hear the song, Que Sara Sara being played.
“When I was young, I asked my mother, what would I be?” There were so many uncertainties yet
that many desires and yearnings.
By the age of seven, I had a clear path, the way I wanted to head. I wanted to be an artiste, an actress. I was very lucky to have parents who were supportive and parents who threw in whatever money they could to enhance and develop my skills. I often used to hum a tune a little whenever I could, and they decided that singing was my thing. Thus, since I was like eight? I took up singing classes, ballet classes. Not forgetting piano classes and drawing since what, five?
Was taking lessons at Yamaha when I was 5..
Drawing lessons too... Too bad I never held on to you know being a master in any skills. HAH. I gave up very shortly every time and wanted to try something new.
When I was in my teenage years, I started being very driven about
fulfilling my dreams. I would sign up for courses that might cost up to
thousands. Be it acting, singing or dancing, I went for it.
When I was 14, I took part in Teenager Icon and was sent there for training.
When I was 15, I went to Ocean Butterflies.
When I was 16, I was introduced to singing at Getai performances. To me,
it was a platform to train as well as to hone my stage presence skills. Living
in Singapore, where there are like that limited chances and resources to soar
to great heights in the entertainment industry, I had to grab whatever chances I
could.
When I just started out in Getai... Ya. UGLY.
After a few years?
Frankly speaking, I would like to thank all the organizers who actually
gave me chances to perform despite my lousy singing skills at that age.
Seriously, I could barely hold a tune. I got all jittery on stage, I hated the
kind of flamboyant stage wear, disliked the kind of songs sung and I didn’t
know how to make myself pretty and presentable. I was just that ugly chick, who
was so delicate and protected. At that time, I relied heavily on the other
hosts and veteran singers, hoping that they would save me or help me sing
along. Of course, some were nice, they’d help but there were others who were
all prickly and indifferent. I heard mean comments; I’ve been through what I
would consider to be aggrieving and hurtful; and I’ve always thought that it
was just probably not in me to succeed. Yet, as often as there are those who
hurt you, there will be that one or two helpful people who will carry you along the way.
This was when I was 13?
In 2010, I was very lucky to have been able to participate in a Youth Talk Show called "Lets Talk". "Lets Talk" was a talk show where teens were given the opportunity on TV to talk about the issues that they have as a teenager. Probably discussion over stuff or problems that they've met with in school, in daily life, relationship with parents or such. With my somewhat not-so-smooth-sailing Secondary school years, the experiences I had allowed me to share on screen. Although I was not that good-looking then, but it was quite something as it was the first time when I actually participated in a program for TV.
In 2011, Lets Talk 2 invited me to do some outdoor hosting for the show. I learnt a lot from it too as it was the first time in which I was given a script to memorize. In 2012, after going for auditions, thank you Director Jack, I made it to the big screen - Ah Boys to Men. Although it was a small role, but I was contented and happy as it was the kind of once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Yes, in life, other than hard work and all, timing and luck can play a big part too.
Also, in 2011, I advanced into hosting certain events and weddings. Hosting on stages can be very different from in a TV set as a lot of it are mostly impromptu. At the start, I struggled a lot as I was unconfident and tend to stutter or go too fast. Definitely something Im still learning to control. Just to share, one of the most stressful event to host would be a wedding. You know how important weddings are to the newly wed? I mean for me, if my wedding is like screwed up by the singer/host, it will be like one of my most regretted choice in life to have hired her/him on that day you know? As such, I always feel stressed up with the heavy responsibilities of hosting the wedding dumped unto me. Although so, you've got to say that its really a joy to host weddings as haha, weddings are just able to shed some sweetness and light into the dark and cold world we're in, yah?
The first time that I hosted a wedding was my god-sis's wedding.
Third time hosting a wedding, toasting on stage.
The thing about me hosting a wedding is that, firstly it is bilingual and secondly, I'm script-less. SCARY!
Other than the above mentioned, this year, I decided to open up this blog to share my life and enjoyments with you people. The good thing about having to write a blog is that - you've got to find interesting stuff to write about! In order to achieve that, I kinda need to ensure that my life REMAINS interesting. With the blog and other social media platforms, its no doubt that I'm starting to play my part in making my own life interesting and worth it.
With that, I really hope that you guys will continue to support my blog and well, me, while Im at all this.
With love,
Sherraine.
